Registration for SFA's music prep classes Saturday

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registration for fall classes and private lessons offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in the lobby of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

Students may register for weekly private lessons in piano, harp, Suzuki violin, traditional violin, cello, classical guitar, saxophone, percussion, flute and voice.

Group instruction is available through the Kindermusik programs for newborns through age 5, Suzuki violin for ages 3 and older and musicianship classes for beginning and intermediate piano students.

Adult piano classes will also be offered.

The SFA Songsters, an elementary voice class, is open to singers between the ages of 10 and 14.

Students in grades third through fifth grade may audition for the SFA Children's Chorus, and middle through high school aged string players may audition for the Piney Woods Youth Orchestra.

"This registration period is provided especially for families who are new to our program," said Pat Barnett, division director. "We request that students accompany their parents on Saturday so that we can better assess which program or level of musicianship is the most appropriate for the child."

Former students should register as soon as possible. Private lessons begin the week of Aug. 22.
