Four SFA grads have perfect grades


Four Stephen F. Austin State University students with perfect 4.0 grade point averages will graduate during commencement ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. today at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The Rev. Steven Bradley Morgan will receive a bachelor of science degree in political science. Morgan, a graduate of Clements High School in Sugar Land, is pastor at Bonita United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches and plans to continue that ministry while he pursues a master's degree in theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Morgan is the son of the Rev. Tom and Judy Morgan of Bay City. He and his wife, Laura, have two children.

Krista Petty and Ranita Scott are 4.0 graduates who will receive bachelor of science degrees in speech and hearing therapy. Petty is a 2002 graduate of Spring Hill High School and the daughter of Rick and Karla Petty of Longview. She is a member of the National Student Speech, Language and Hearing Association, the SFA Baptist Student Ministry and the Yellow House.

Scott is a 2002 graduate of White Oak High School and the daughter of Fran and Clifford Scott. She serves as historian of the SFA chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, National Scholars Honor Society and The National Dean's List.

Isaac Kendall York of Dillard, Ga., also will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average, receiving a bachelor of science degree in rehabilitation. York, a 2000 graduate of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee High School, is the son of Terry York and Sheri Garland York. He is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, the Gamma Beta Phi service organization and Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. York recently completed a semester-long study-abroad program in Valladolid, Spain.

There will be 438 candidates for bachelor's degrees, 176 candidates for master's degrees and three doctoral candidates. Fifty four students will graduate with honors, including 21 cum laude, 22 magna cum laude and 11 summa cum laude candidates.

The commencement speaker is Robert Stephen Ely, president of Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore.
