FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SFA human sciences honors alumni, students, faculty
Two Nacogdoches residents
were honored recently for outstanding services in the Stephen F. Austin State University
Department of Human Sciences. Dr. Patsy Hallman,
retired SFA human sciences professor, was honored with the Edna Wilkin Teagarden Award for
Exemplary Service in Human Sciences, and the Willie E. Glass Faculty Spirit Award was presented
to Dr. Rachel Underwood, SFA professor of family and consumer sciences. Dr. Lynda Martin, chair
of the department, presented the Teagarden Award to Hallman. Dr. Hallman devoted
her professional life to the advancemen of human sciences, the education of young minds,
and the success of Stephen F. Austin State University, Martin said. Hallman earned a master's degree from SFA in 1965 and joined the SFA faculty
in 1969. During her 36-year tenure with the university, she served as professor and teacher
educator in the Department of Human Sciences, director of the Center for Professional Development
and Technology, and ultimately, both associate dean and dean of the College of Education.
She is the author of numerous books and articles, ranging in topic from the professional
to the inspirational. Well-traveled, well-read and well-educated, Dr. Hallman was praised for being
the epitome of a true professional and an inspiration to all who know her as a professor,
adviser, mentor and friend, Martin said. Outstanding academic achievement awards were presented to Katie Shelton, Julie
Grotheim, Claire Mertz, Katy Williford, Britany Vinson and Lora Der Tatevasion.? The Glennadene Byrns McKibben Outstanding College of
Education Award was presented to Lisa McLan , and Anita Eason received the Edna Wilkin Teagarden
Human Sciences Graduate Award. Students receiving academic awards were Sarah Rodriquez, Alexandria Coverson,
Anna Boles, Jenna Gideon, Laurie Snowden, Michelle Ivy, Debra Jones, Andrew Worthy, Natalie
Hensarling, Courtney Koder, Amanda Cathey, Laura Jordan, Lisa McLane, Rebecca Scott, Nicole
Byrd, Samantha Bendix and Lora Tatevasion.? Two additional scholarships have been offered to incoming
freshman students for the fall semester. Students receiving Alumni or SFA Development Foundation scholarships were Samantha Mora, Diane Valdez, Destiny Christian, Kelsey Cranford, Teresa Smith, Katie Williford, Smantha Simmons, Jeanne Lapotaire, Amanda Ayala, Debra Gebhard, Khristan Williams, Elizabeth Deward, Elyse Ramirez, Brandy Myers, Caroline Magruder, Abby Valkner and Stephen Barnes. |
