'Just in Case' winners announced NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Winners of the "Just in Case" juried art exhibition at Stephen F. Austin State University were announced at the show's opening Monday, April 10. Kristi Rader, Houston senior, received First Place for "I wear my emotions on my sleeve." Leslie Magdelano, Houston graduate student, received Second Place for "4385," and Dan Grissom, Louisiana graduate student, received Third Place for "Brother." The show, which includes 29 pieces by 16 artists, was juried by Dana Sperry, assistant curator at the Tyler Museum of Art. Entries were limited to works that are 12" x 12" x 8" or smaller. The show is currently housed in the display cases in the front hallway of the SFA Art Building and will remain there until May 11. The show will then be displayed May 12 through July 30 in The Artspace at Memorial Hospital, located in the front lobby. During August and September, it will be exhibited at the Nacogdoches Public Library and Ward Studios on Main Street. Anita Powell, SFA assistant professor of art, started the show four years ago as a way for SFA art students to have another exhibition venue. She said the show also gives her art education majors experience in planning, moving and advertising a show. |
