SFA personnel changes approved by regents
Faculty members promoted to professor included Dr. Freddie Avant, social work; Dr. Michael Stroup, economics and finance; Dr. DawnElla Rust, kinesiology; Dr. Betty Alford, secondary education; Dr. Vi Alexander, elementary education; and Dr. David Lawson, human services. Drs. Sam Copeland and Sharon Templeman, social work; Dr. Parker Ballinger, economics and finance; Dr. Susan Jennings, general business; Drs. Jan Lacina and Alan Sowards, elementary education; Dr. Richard Jones, theatre; Dr. Mark E. Turner, music; Drs. Kenneth Collier and Michael Tkacik, political science, geography and public administration; Drs. Randi Cox and Troy Davis, history; and Dr. Dean Coble, forestry, were promoted to associate professor. Dr. Kathleen Belanger was promoted to assistant professor in the School of Social Work, and Phillip Reynolds and Ann Ellis were promoted to Librarian III. Tenure was awarded to the following faculty members: Drs. Sam Copeland and Sharon Templeman, social work; Dr. Parker Ballinger, economics and finance; Dr. Susan Jennings, general business; Dr. Jan Lacina, elementary education; Dr. Richard Jones, theatre; Drs. Stephen Lias and Mark E. Turner, music; Dr. Kenneth Collier, political science, geography and public administration; Drs. Randi Cox and Troy Davis, history; Dr. Marc Guidry, English and philosophy; Dr. Michael Tkacik, political science, geography and public administration; Drs. Dennis Gravett and Alexander Karateyev, biology; Dr. Anthony Duben, chemistry; Dr. Dean Coble, forestry; and Shirley Dickerson and Rachel Galan, library. The following faculty appointments were approved for the College of Liberal Arts: Dr. Theodore Joseph, assistant professor of psychology; Kseniya Alexandra Vinarov, assistant professor of modern languages; Drs. Anne Collins Smith and Jason T. McEntee, assistant professors of English and philosophy; Dr. Karol Chandler-Ezell, assistant professor of sociology; Jennifer Perky Beisel and Dr. Andrew C. Lannen, assistant professors of history; and Dr. Kwame Badu Antwi-Boasiako, assistant professor of public administration and political science. The appointment of Dr. Anthony Duben as dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics and professor of chemistry was approved, as were the appointments of Dr. Russell J. Franks, assistant professor of chemistry, and Dr. Keith Hubbard, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics. In the College of Education, Kim Archer and Dr. Gretchen Dawn Oliver, were appointed assistant professors of kinesiology and health science. Dr. Paige Renee Mask was appointed assistant professor of human services. Appointments approved for the Nelson Rusche College of Business were Mark A. Scanlan and Stephen M. Kosovich, assistant professors of economics. Staff appointments were approved as follows: Steve Sykes, assistant volleyball coach and instructor; Leigh Heusner, head equestrian coach; Hollie Gammel, orientation coordinator; John L. Chapman II, communications broadcast technical support specialist; Marie Davenport, education CERT-PREP project coordinator; Dr. Tiffany Evans, library director; Kinnie M. Parker, Piney Woods Area Health Education Center coordinator. Deborah Sellman was promoted from bursar to coordinator of planning, resources and accountability. Other status changes included Jaime E. Frias, from assistant soccer coach to head coach; Jill J. Heard, from accounting clerk to interim manager of residence life; Shirley Dickerson, from associate director to interim library director; and Dr. Shiyou Li from forestry research scientist to director of pharmaceutical crops and research professor. The following retirements were approved: Ronald W. Robinson, associate professor, criminal justice; Barbara J. Chaviers, health clinic; Charlotte Kennemer, lecturer of elementary education; Mary McCleary and John Daniel, professors of art; Dr. Joseph Devine, professor of history; Joseph Gaut, library program director; Betty K. Jacks, purchasing; and Dr. James Garrett, chemistry professor. Dr. Ronald Robinson, associate professor of criminal justice, will serve in his current position on a part-time basis beginning Sept. 1. Faculty development leave was approved for Anita Powell, art, for the fall semester and for the following faculty members for the spring 2006 semester: Dr. Alan Nielsen, theatre; Charles Jones, art; Dr. Larry Chasteen, management, marketing and international business; and Dr. Leon Young, agriculture.
