SFA jazz bands present season's final concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands will present their final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Cole Concert Hall.

Under the direction of Deb Scott, SFA assistant professor of music, the Swingin' Aces will perform a variety of pieces, including "American Patrol," which was made famous by Glenn Miller's band. Gary Wurtz, SFA assistant professor of music, will be the featured trumpet soloist on "Speak Low" by Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash.

Wurtz will direct the Swingin' Axes in performing a variety of big band, swing and jazz numbers.

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music.
