SFA Faculty Cellist to present recital

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Evgeni Raychev, adjunct faculty in the Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Music, will present a faculty cello recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Cole Concert Hall.

During the first half of the recital, Raychev will perform solo cello works by Julius Klengel, Peter Hristoskov, J. S. Bach and Gaspar Cassado.

The second half of the recital will feature the Hachidori Duo, consisting of Raychev and violinist Jennifer Dalmas, SFA assistant professor of music. The husband and wife will perform Zoltan Kodaly's "Duo for Violin and Cello."

Raychev said he chose the program to acquaint the audience with masterpieces that are not often performed on the concert stage.

"I also want to promote the use of the cello alone as well as the wonderful match in color and register of the violin-cello combination," Raychev added.

Raychev joined the SFA faculty in 2003 and also teaches in the department's Music Preparatory Division. He is the principal cellist of the Orchestra of the Pines.

The Bulgarian native received his master's degree from the Sofia Music Academy and a second master's and doctoral degrees from Florida State University.

While studying in Tallahassee, he was the principal cellist in the University Symphony Orchestra and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. He has given recitals and performed with orchestras in Bulgaria, Austria, Czech Republic, Costa Rica and the United States.

The recital is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please call (936) 468-6407 or 888-240-ARTS.
