SFA bands to present concert

The Stephen F. Austin State University Symphonic and Concert bands will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in W. M. Turner Auditorium.

The bands will perform works from the traditional band repertoire and marches from around the world, according to Steven Parkman, associate director of bands at SFA and director of the Symphonic Band.

The Symphonic Band’s portion of the program will feature trombonist Jonathan Stoby, Belton junior, on Arthur Pryor’s “Bluebells of Scotland” and Fred J. Allen, director of bands, guest conducting Ramón Roig’s “La Gracia de Dios.” The ensemble will also perform Vittorio Giannini’s “Symphony No. 3.”

Sean Lipscomb, Arlington graduate student, will direct the Concert Band in playing Karl King’s “Burma Patrol,” Percy Grainger’s “Green Bushes” and Clifton Williams’ “Symphonic Suite.”

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music.
