| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Susan Hammons–April 14, 2004 (936) 468-2041
Dr. Linda Morales, second from left, was honored today as the Woman of the Year by the University Professional Women of Stephen F. Austin State University. Shown with Morales, from left, are Dr. Sharon Templeman, UPW co-president and assistant professor in the School of Social Work; Linda Reynolds, nominating committee member and librarian in the East Texas Research Center; and Dr. James Standley, dean of the College of Applied Arts and Sciences. Morales, interim director of the School of Social Work, has taught in the school for 15 years. During that time, she has been recognized for teaching excellence and for her many contributions to East Texas and the profession. She became interim dean two years ago during difficult times for the school. Under her leadership, the school stabilized and successfully achieved reaffirmation by the Council on Social Work Education for eight more years. Colleagues describe Morales as “fair, visionary, inspirational, a leader among leaders and an excellent mentor for professional women.”
