Dirt Doctor to dish at SFA

 

The Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum will host a special organic gardening seminar with Howard Garrett, “The Dirt Doctor,” on April 5 at 7 p.m. in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building located on Wilson Drive in Nacogdoches.

 

Garrett is a well-known author and proponent of organic gardening methods. He is a landscape architect by training, with extensive experience in landscape contracting, greenhouse growing, golf course planning and maintenance, and organic product development. Since 1988, Garrett has committed his career to the research, education and promotion of organic landscaping, gardening, farming, ranching and basic soil management.

 

Currently, Howard hosts a radio gardening show called The Natural Way in the Dallas area on radio station WBAP. He writes a weekly column by the same name for the Dallas Morning News. He has taught organic gardening for the Southern Methodist University continuing education department, lectures extensively and continues to consult on organics, horticulture and agriculture.

 

Garrett is the author of several books including: Plants for Texas, Texas Bug Book, Texas Organic Vegetable Gardening, Dirt Doctor’s Guide to Organic Gardening and The Organic Manual.
