.Admission Information

Stephen F. Austin State University has a reputation for providing excellent preparation for students wishing to enter health care professions, and those who survive the academic challenge here are given strong consideration for admission.

Pre-professional Programs is a division of the College of Science and Mathematics. Its purpose is to provide the opportunity for students to complete the academic admissions requirements for professional schools offering training in the health care fields, engineering, and architecture. (Pre-engineering and architecture information is available from the Physics Department; health care fields from Biology.) At Stephen F. Austin students may become eligible to apply for admission into many professional schools in Texas, including medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and engineering and architecture. Students may also complete admissions requirements for many allied health programs, including medical technology, dental hygiene, health information management, occupational therapy, physical therapy (for only four schools in Texas), and physician's assistant.

Admission into most professional schools is highly competitive and applicants are expected to demonstrate above average academic ability and strong motivation for their chosen field. Some programs require prior experience as part of the application requirements all feel that it is extremely important.
