Special Research Project

Special Project Proposal

Most students will complete a special research project related to their in-service work or internship. After a special research project proposal is approved, students will enroll in three (3) credit hours of PBA 575 or PBA 576. Some special research projects will warrant enrollment in PBA 576 for additional credit hours. Students who only take PBA 575 will take an additional course in their minor field, an elective graduate course, or an internship to complete the MPA degree.

PBA 575 Advanced Graduate Studies - Individual study. May be repeated under different topics.
PBA 576 Advanced Graduate Studies - Same as 575 for credit in a different topic.

Thesis

Students wishing to pursue a doctorate in public administration (or a related field) or research positions are strongly recommended to complete a thesis.

PBA 589 Thesis Research - Prerequisite: Consent of adviser.
PBA 590 Thesis Writing -Prerequisites: PBA 589 and consent of adviser.

Internship

All pre-service students are required to complete a three (3) credit hour internship. Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply course knowledge, gain meaningful work experiences, and build their resumes. PSC 599 - Public Administration Internship - Practical public administration experience under the direction of an experienced public administrator in an agency. Seminars, faculty supervision, and a final administrative report are required.

Electives

With the approval of the MPA Program Director, students may take electives in their graduate degree plan. Many graduate courses currently offered are acceptable.
