Instructions for Applying for a Classified (Staff) Position and online Application

State of Texas employment applications are accepted in one of two ways at Stephen F. Austin State University.

1. Applications may be completed in the Human Resources Office from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located in Room 201 of the Austin Building.

2. Applicants may also download the State of Texas Employment Application on the Human Resources web page http://www.twc.state.tx.us/jobs/gvjb/stateapp.doc.

The application may be typed online or completed using black ink. The application should then be turned in to Human Resources.

To mail an application, please forward it to:

           Stephen F. Austin State University
           Human Resources
           P.O. Box 13039, SFA Station
           Nacogdoches, TX 75962-3039

The application must be signed, dated, and the correct job posting number and position title must be indicated on the application for it to be complete. Unsolicited applications that do not specify a job title and posting number will not be accepted. Failure to list specific examples of work duties, dates of employment, reasons for leaving, areas of qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities listed in a job posting may result in the application being considered incomplete and not be granted a referral. HR will not process any application that is incomplete. You may submit a resume with an application, but a resume will not replace the completion of an application.

For clerical positions requiring typing, you must complete a typing test, administered by Human Resources. An applicant must satisfy the minimum level of typing skills and meet minimum qualifications before a referral is made to a specific department.

You can find out about vacant positions by reviewing Human Resource’s employment web-site (http://www.sfasu.edu/personnel/employment.html)   or by viewing the postings on the Employment Bulletin Board on the second floor in the Austin Building. The employment web-site is available 24 hours a day and list all current positions. It is updated as our positions open and close in order to provide the most current information to applicants.

Human Resources does not provide status reports on applications, either by phone or by mail. Applicants will be contacted by hiring departments if they are selected for an interview. Please do not contact the hiring department.

Original applications are retained in the Human Resources Office for six months. An applicant may request to have his/her application forwarded for a vacant position to the respective department, if all requirements for that position are met, by contacting Human Resources at (936) 468-2304.

Resumes and other required data for advertised faculty and professional positions should be mailed directly to the respective contact person/department.

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must furnish proof of identification and employment authorization for work in the US.

As a state institution, Stephen F. Austin State University abides by the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215. Pursuant to this policy, criminal history is checked upon employment for employees filling security sensitive positions.

The State of Texas requires upon employment that all males who are age 18 to 26 must register with the Selective Service and present either proof of registration or exemption from registration.

Reasonable accommodations will be made in assisting persons with disabilities to complete the application process. Please inform Human Resources if an accommodation is needed.
