Position:

Dean (12-month, Tenure-track)

Starting Date:

September 1, 2009 or earlier if possible.

Job Description:

Provide effective leadership to Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.  Directs and oversees the teaching, research and outreach missions of the College, supervising the personnel procedures, securing resources, representing and promoting the College, and preparing and administering the College budgets. Responsible for the College's planning processes, academic program development, accreditation, student and faculty recruitment and retention, and fundraising.  Directly leads the forestry program of the college, participates in the Society of American Foresters at the state and national level, is the university's representative to the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs, and serves ex-officio as member of the board of directors of the Texas Forestry Association. Chairs faculty meetings of the forestry faculty, conducts annual reviews of the forestry faculty and staff, is responsible for maintaining Society of American Foresters accreditation of the undergraduate forestry program, and serves as Authorized Technical Representative for the federally funded McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Research Program and the state-funded Center for Applied Studies in Forestry at SFA. Reports to the Provost/VPAA and serves on the Dean's Council. 

Professional Requirements or
Special Skills:

Earned doctorate degree in one of the disciplines in the College and be familiar with the others.  Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and administrative experience in a university setting that would qualify him or her as a professor with tenure. Possess excellent leadership skills and experience in academic consideration.  Serves as Authorized Technical Representative for the College's McIntire-Stennis cooperative forestry research program and the Center for Applied Studies in Forestry.  Demonstrated ability to secure external financial support.
