Position:

Research Specialist - Temple Project

Starting Date:

April 1, 2008 or as soon as possible.

Job Description:

Works directly with College/Forest Resources Institute scientists to assist in performing field measurements and other duties necessary for operation of research in forest resources. Work chiefly involves performing field operations of research installation and collection. Other responsibilities involve quality assurance/quality control in collection of these data, and interaction with supervisory scientists, hourly labor, student assistants and contractors. This is a security-sensitive position.

Professional Requirements or
Special Skills:

A Bachelor's degree in forestry or biology is required. A master’s degree is preferred. Previous experience in field data collection and forestry research experience preferred. Ideal candidate will posses experience directly involving the collection and analysis of field data for research purposes; dealing with private landowners concerning their forest lands; and dealing with cooperating agencies. Ability and desire to present and promote a favorable image of the University and Institute. Knowledge, skills, abilities and attitude required to consistently and reliably collect high quality field data. Ability to process and handle confidential/proprietary information with discretion. Knowledge, skills, ability and desire to contribute to ensuring the quality of all College/Institute products and services. Knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively communicate (oral and written). Knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to contribute in planning, coordinating and scheduling of trips, fieldwork, meetings, conferences and other events as necessary. Ability and desire to cooperate with College/Institute personnel, contractors and others as needed. Ability to meet and work effectively with contractors, faculty, research scientists and associates, business representatives, governmental officials, the general public and others as necessary. Knowledge, skills, ability and desire to answer or refer questions regarding the operations, products and services of the College/Institute. Knowledge of relevant University and Institute rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics and data entry. Knowledge of current computer systems and programs utilized by the College/Institute and a demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn new systems and programs as needed. Knowledge of audio/visual equipment utilized by the College/Institute, and a demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn how to use new equipment as needed.
