Find Funding

How can you find funding opportunities?
Locating funding and matching your project ideas to a funding agency's needs can certainly be a challenge. ORSP can help you locate external funding by utilizing many resources. Once a potential funding agency / program has been identified, we will review the program guidelines and proposal application with you, as well as help you develop a time line for proposal development.

There are a variety of online publications, searchable databases, and funding notice listservs that can be useful in your search. You should also take advantage of our connections to local award recipients, program officers, and funding agencies as well as our subscriptions to funding notice publications.

Is the funding agency appropriate for your project?
Consider the following:

  • Eligibility requirements
  • Average Award
  • Matching Requirements
  • Reporting Requirements
  • Subsequent Funding

If you are seeking cash gifts designated for any type of research, unrestricted cash gifts, or donations of equipment and other non-cash items used in research, you should contact university Advancement. Some foundations limit the number of applications that can be submitted from an institution. Some proposals are best submitted by the SFA Foundation rather than the university.

If you are seeking philanthropic gits from foundations and individuals you should contact ORSP for assistance with solicitation procedures.

Once you've decided that an agency may be a good match, make contact with the agency's program officer to discuss your ideas and needs. They are there to help! Familiarize yourself with the agency's procedures, forms, lead time (time after proposal submission and before award announcement), etc.
