Strategic Plan

Stephen F. Austin State University is currently in the process of developing a strategic plan to guide the institution into the future. Since the institutional plan is still in discussion, Dean Brian M. Murphy of the College of Liberal and Applied Arts proposed a short term vision for the faculty to consider. Preliminary reports from faculty committees are due shortly to implement this vision and, as these become available, we will post them for public comment. In the meantime, Dean Murphy’s PowerPoint presentation can be viewed by clicking here. The key elements of the plan are the following:

  • Establishing a pilot project to improve the delivery of general education courses by incorporating new skills (applied research, civic responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving), new knowledge (interdisciplinary connections, cultural diversity, internationalization,), and interactive pedagogy;
  • Promoting program specialization at the upper-level;
  • Creating dual degrees with overseas universities;
  • Revising the advising process to provide a more career-focused system;
  • Enhancing outreach to the community.

Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions. We are eager to move forward on all fronts.
