Writing
Enhanced Courses
All Liberal
and Applied Arts majors must accumulate 9 semester hours (minimally)
of Writing Enhanced coursework
in residence at SFA. English 131, 132,
133, 235 cannot be used to satisfy this requirement.
Criteria
for Writing Enhanced designation (1) through (4) must be recorded
on the syllabus:
| |
1. |
Each
student will write a minimum of 3000 words or 10 pages throughout
the semester. |
| |
2. |
The
course will include instruction in discipline-based writing
among its objectives. |
| |
3. |
Each
student will be required to revise and re-submit at least
one assignment during the term. |
| |
4. |
Out-of-class
writing assignments will count for a minimum of 20% of the
course grade. |
| |
5. |
Generally
speaking, there will be an enrollment limit of 25 students
per WE section, but the limit may be increased as necessary
in consultation with the course instructor. |
Notes
to departments:
| |
A. |
The
designation of a course as "Writing Enhanced"
is no longer fixed. It will need to be specified each semester. |
| |
B. |
For
multiple-section courses, some sections may be designated
as "WE" while others are not. |
| |
C. |
All
"WE" courses must conform to (1) through (5) above.
Copies of syllabi for all WE courses should be sent to the
College office for review by the Liberal and Applied Arts
Council to insure conformity with the principles. |
| |
D. |
Instructors
can arrange writing enhanced contracts with individual students.

Insert "W" in Subtitle Code and Subtitle Print
Optionally include "Writing Enhanced" as Extended
Subtitle
["W" will appear on the transcript and in the schedule
of classes where "H" appears for Honors courses
presently. Note: we will have a problem for courses that are
both "H" and "W"; we will need to deal
with the problem when it first comes up.]
