Teacher Certification Requirements

Requirements for authorization to take a TExES or ExCET Examination in a Liberal Arts teaching field:

English Language Arts and Reading, History, Social Studies, Spanish, French

Effective August 29, 2001

1. Earn at least a "C" in each required course in the teaching field and earn a grade point average of at least 2.5 on all of the required courses in the teaching field.

2. Earn at least a "B" in a content mastery course that includes a TExES preparation component.

In the event the student takes the TExES or ExCET and fails it, the appropriate academic department will establish developmental requirements for that student. Those requirements may range from assigned independent study to retaking specified courses. Authorization to re-take the TExES or ExCET will not be given until the student has satisfactorily completed the required developmental work.
