Undergraduate Research Conference

Conference Agenda


Wednesday, March 26 - Departmental submissions due to the College committee(please submit in hard copy to Dr. Liz Tasker, Department of English)

Wednesday, April 2 –Announcement of the three Dean’s Research Scholars.  These three will need to prepare interactive presentations.  All other entrants will need to create poster presentations. 

4. Friday, April 18 – Conference – Undergraduate Research Conference, 1:00-5:00, Kennedy Auditorium


Recognize Student Research
  • Reward outstanding undergraduate research
  • Promote academic competition and interdisciplinary exchange
  • Raise parent and student awareness of excellence in the Liberal & Applied Arts College
  • Celebrate student achievements & creativity

 

Procedure
  • Any student paper completed as a College requirement in 2007-2008 is eligible
  • Each department can nominate at least three papers; departments with more than 50 majors can nominate one additional student paper per every 50 additional majors.
  • Nominations will consist of an abstract and a faculty recommendation.
  • Three papers will be selected to receive the Dean’s Research Scholar award

Conference Format
  • Poster presentations
  • Round table discussion (topic TBD)
  • Speed debates (faculty vs. students)
  • Interactive presentations by the three Dean’s Research Scholars
  • Refreshments

 

Criteria for selecting student submissions
  • Content
    • well-focused and supported academic inquiry
    • thorough, innovative, and thought-provoking
  • Research
    • identifiable and sound research methods
    • documented as appropriate to the discipline
  • Clarity and Style
    • logical, unified, and coherent
    • structurally sound and well written
