The Graduate Council met at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2003 in Room 307, Austin Building.  Dr. Bradfield made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 27, 2003 meeting.  Dr. Clack seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

I.       Announcements

 

         A.      Application Fees

 

The Board of Regents passed the request for an application fee for the thirteen (13) additional programs that asked to be allowed to charge one.  The Graduate School will begin collecting the application fees June 1, 2003 from students applying to these programs for the Fall 2003 semester and beyond.

 

         B.      May 2003 Graduate Council Meeting

 

                  The May 2003 Graduate Council meeting is cancelled.

 

         C.      Graduate Assistantships

 

Dr. Jeffrey has met with Dr. Guerrero and Dr. Young and they assured Dr. Jeffrey that they will be doing everything possible to maintain the current graduate assistant positions in spite of the anticipated reductions in appropriations from the legislature.

 

 

II.      Old Business

 

         There was no old business.

 

III.     New Business

 

         A.      Graduate Faculty Applications

 

Dr. Jeffrey has reviewed and given administrative approval to the following Graduate Faculty membership applications:

Dr. Kenner made a motion to accept the membership applications as presented.  Dr. Roberson seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

Dr. Smith made a motion to approve the renewals as presented.  Dr. Clack seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

 

         C.      The William R. Johnson Outstanding Thesis Award

 

A vote was taken among the Graduate Council members with Mr. Paul David Jones receiving the most votes to win the William R. Johnson Outstanding Thesis Award.  Mr. Paul David Jones completed his Master of Science in Forestry degree in December of 2002.  The May commencement program will give special recognition (in print) of the award and he will also receive a plaque with the appropriate information on it.

 

Dr. Bradfield made a motion to adjourn.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Clack.  The meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
