Chemistry 112
Course Objective: To provide
students with an explanation of the basic principles of chemistry and to apply
these principles to problem solving involving critical thinking.
Student Learning Outcomes: The
student is expected to recognize and apply the following basic principles to
problem solving:
- Basic recognition of molecular structure relating to
the classification of organic compounds and functional groups.
- Basic vocabulary relating to the common and IUPAC
names of simple organic and biochemical compounds.
- Basic principles of writing chemical equations for
organic and biochemical reactions.
- Basic relationships between physical properties and
molecular structure of organic and biochemical compounds.
- Basic principles of the chemistry of lipids,
carbohydrates, and proteins.
