Petra Collyer, DVM.

Dr. Collyer earned her med.vet. (DVM equivalent) from the Free University of Berlin, Germany, in 1999 and completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (PhD equivalent) 2003 at the University of Berne, Switzerland. Dr Collyer has been engaged as a mainly large animal veterinarian in private veterinary businesses as well as in academia in several different countries, e.g., in Scotland, France, Switzerland and in the United States. Besides working in a clinical setting, Dr Collyer performed duties as a veterinary consultant for the veterinary industry before joining the biology faculty at SFA in September, 2009.

Dr. Collyer’s research is focused on the physiology of domestic mammals as well as wild species and their physiological adaptations to different environments. Specifically her interest in the physiological stress response in animals targets the improvement of animal welfare and husbandry in domestic mammals and wild species in captivity.
