Ecology & Evolutionary Biology



Course Description:
This course begins by examining a range of issues including the fundamental differences between science and theology, lines of evidence in support of evolutionary biology and then summarizes the mechanisms responsible for evolutionary change and methods used to study evolution. The course then examines in more detail topics such as: sexual selection, social behavior, life history characteristics, speciation, reconstruction of evolutionary trees and human health issues. The course deals with complex conceptual issues and is intended for students with a firm foundation in biology with a clear understanding of genetics.

Catalog Description: 3 semester hours, 3 hours lecture per week. Basic principles, mechanisms, and patterns of evolution including a historical survey of related ideas. Suggested background BIO 341 or equivalent.
