Mycology: Bio 312
General Biology

Course Description: Mycology is an introduction to the group of organisms known as fungi. The familiar mushrooms and molds are a major focus; fungal-like organisms that mycologist have traditionally studied (slime molds, water molds) are also included. identification, and natural history of this diverse group. The impact of
fungi both on natural ecosystems and human civilization is stressed. Laboratories are designed to introduce the major genera within each phylum. Two student projects are required: a field collection of macrofungi and laboratory isolations for the culturing of microfungi .

Catalog Description:312. Mycology - 3 semester hours, 2 hours lecture, 3 hours lab per week. Structure, classification and identification of fungi including those of economic importance. Prerequisite: Two semesters of biology. Lab fee $10.
