Financial Assistance

     The university has numerous scholarships available for students. Below is a list of scholarships for individuals pursuing a degree in biology. Regents Scholarship – A university scholarship, the winners are chosen by the student’s major department. Historically, the Biology Department has awarded two scholarships/year. To be eligible, the student must be a new incoming freshman, sophomore, or junior-level student who has not previously attended SFASU, top 15% of graduating high school class or minimum 1220 SAT or minimum 27 ACT. J. H. Burr, Jr. Scholarship, Biology major, Junior enrolled and in good standing enrolled at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.5.

Matthew H. Clark Memorial Scholarship, Biology major/pre-dentistry, US citizen of any classification enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.25.

Anna Beth Connell, M.D. Scholarship, Female Biology major entering a medical field, Junior or Senior enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.5, preference given to East Texas resident.

Peyton L. Denman Pre-Med Scholarship, Biology major/pre-medical, Junior or above enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, prefer student from Angelina County, minimum overall GPA of 3.5, need a high priority.

Russell C. Faulkner, Jr. Scholarship, Biology major pursuing teaching or preprofessional requirements, Junior or Senior enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.5.

Dr. Vernon and “Bill” Evans Glenn Scholarship, Biology major pursuing pre-physician’s assistant requirements, any classification enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Giles Joiner Scholarship, Marine Biology major

Thomas D. and Patricia Fuller Martin Scholarship, Life Science major, Junior or Senior enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Harry McDonald Scholarship, Biology major, Junior or Senior enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

William J. Pitts Memorial p Pre-Med Scholarship, Biology major/pre-medical, any classification enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.5.

David Robertson Memorial Scholarship by Pfizer, Inc., Biology major with demonstrated interest in human health research, Junior or Senior enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.5

W. V. “Mike” Robertson Scholarship, Biology major, must have at least 30 hours at SFASU and be currently enrolled and in good standing, minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Frances Hazel Vanhoozer (Duke) Ross Memorial Pre-Medical Scholarship, Biology major/pre-medical, Junior or above enrolled and in good standing at SFASU, demonstrated skills in the arts and humanities, minimum overall GPA of 3.6.

Homer T. Russell Family Scholarship, Biology major, Texas citizen enrolled and in good standing having an outstanding record the freshman year (32 hours) at SFASU, minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
