We hope you will travel along all the paths we have prepared for you here.The Department of Communication has a long history at Stephen F. Austin and can claim more than 6,000 graduates who have gone on to exciting careers in a variety of fields. We offer programs and specializations in journalism, advertising, public relations, photojournalism, interpersonal communication, public communication, and radio-television. These programs are delivered by faculty who have both training and professional experience in all of the fields of study.

Courses aim to prepare students to think clearly, communicate effectively, and imagine creatively. Successful communication professionals often visit our campus and offer the wisdom of their experience. Internships turn students into professionals for a time during their college career and they can leave as graduates with real world experience to their credit. On-campus student media likewise are laboratories for future careers in media fields. We have a nationally recognized IPDA debate program and a student newspaper that earned the award for the top Division II newspaper in the state at Texas Intercollegiate Press Association's annual spring convention.
