| Connectivity Troubleshooting Guide for Windows Users | ||||
| 22. | Note:
If you have reached this point in the troubleshooting guide, it is
advised you seek technical assistance from a knowledgeable source. On the Configuration tab of the Network Properties window, one of the following conditions is present: |
a) |
An Ethernet adapter does not appear in the list | ||||||
b) |
More
than one Ethernet adapter appears in the list. (This can result in
a conflict that will prevent proper operation of the Ethernet adapter.) |
||||||
| If you know what Ethernet adapter you have installed in your system, you can remove the other Ethernet adapter from Device Manager to try to resolve the conflict. Refer to item 26 for help with device removal in Device Manager. | |||||||
c) |
A
TCP/IP "binding" associated
with the Ethernet adapter does not appear in the list or the Internet
Protocol is not present. The TCP/IP protocol or Ethernet adapter itself
may need to be installed or reinstalled on the system. |
||||||
d) |
A
TCP/IP "binding" associated with the Ethernet adapter does appear in the configuration list, however, the winipcfg or ipconfig utilities required in item
4 or item 25 still cannot be found. This
is typical of a corrupted or bad TCP/IP protocol installation. It is
usually necessary to remove and reinstall the TCP/IP protocol. |
||||||
The
system must have an Ethernet adapter properly installed and configured
to function on the campus network. Please note: If you are reinstalling
your Ethernet adapter and it was listed in Device Manager without
any obvious errors or conflicts, you will need to remove the Ethernet
adapter
from Device Manager before performing the reinstallation.
Reinstalling with a previous installation still present will result
in a conflict
between the old and new installations. Go to
26 for assistance with
removing devices from Device Manager. If you are reinstalling
your Ethernet adapter, you should follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
For additional installation help, refer to question
11 in the SFA's
ResNet FAQ. |
